Brooks, Stax to screen ‘Wattstax’ | Arts & Culture
(WMC-TV) – The Brooks and Stax Museums are teaming up this summer to offer a special movie series: Soul on Film.
On Thursday, June 14, the museums will launch the film series by celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Wattstax soul concert with a screening of the documentary by the same name. The concert, which featured a host of performers from Stax Records, took place in the Los Angeles Coliseum and commemorated the seventh anniversary of the Watts riots.
Tickets to see the movie at the Brooks will be one dollar, the same admission price as tickets to see the 1972 concert.
Tickets will go on sale at 5:30 p.m., June 14, in the museum’s rotunda.
