MPLIC FREE weekend events

There are lots of FREE programs, classes, events, and workshops planned in your community Memphis Public Library & Information Center this weekend. Take a look at the list.

Saturday, March 24

  • 3-D Projects Workshop, Gaston Park Library Branch, 1040 S. Third St. The workshop is from 10 am until 2 pm and is for adults.
  • Raleigh Friends Meeting, Raleigh Library Branch, 3157 Powers Road. The meeting is from 10 am-12 noon, adults.
  • Family Tunes & Tales, Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library, 3030 Poplar Avenue. Memphis Symphony Orchestra, Brass Quintet will perform a mini-concert with books and crafts. The event is for children and begins at 11 am.
  • Chess Club, 1530 N. Hollywood. This event is for teens and begins at 3 pm.
  • Family Tunes & Tales, Cordova Branch, 8457 Trinity Rd. Memphis Symphony Orchestra will perform a mini-concert with books and crafts.

Memphis City Schools ArtsFest Returns

ArtsFest is Memphis City Schools event designed to celebrate the various artistic abilities of its student body & a way for the community to participate.

ArtsFest 2012 will feature over 600 works of student art & 50 live performances.

The event is scheduled for March 30 & 31st, and the public is invited to assist in judging exhibits & performances.

Second Editions Bookstore located in the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library, is one of the best places to find a wide range of book selections at low prices. MPLIC Birding Workshop

MPLIC Birding Workshop

The Memphis Public Library & Information Center along with the Memphis Chapter of the Tennessee Ornithological Society will host an everything you need to know about bird’s workshop at the Cordova Library Branch on Tuesday, March 20 at 2:30 pm. Find out everything you ever wanted to know about birds from Martha Waldron from various bird species, to feeders, migration, and how habitats attract certain species. River City Brewers Festival

The 3rd annual River City Brewers Festival will be Saturday, March 31 in Handy Park on Beale Street.

Beer from the across the country will be available for sampling as well as samples of signature dishes from some of Memphis' finest restaurants such as Hard Rock Cafe and Pa Pa Pia's.

International brews will also be available for sampling.

More than 60  brewers are participating in the event with over 100 different flavors of beer. Samples are included in the price of admission for the festival.

The Ronald McDonald House has been selected as the benefactor for this year's festival.

Teen Tech Week

Teen Tech Week

Geek Out @ Your Library is the theme for Teen Tech Week 2012. Teens chose and voted for the topic for Teen Tech Week that began Sunday, March 4 and continues through Saturday, March 10, 2012.

During Teen Tech Week libraries across the country will have the opportunity to showcase the technology they offer with programs and events for teens. The events will focus on areas that include online services and homework help to digital literacy focused programs through resources like e-books, movies, music, audio books, and databases.

The Memphis Library & Information Center has events planned for teens throughout the week in celebration of Teen Tech Week.

Tuesday, March 6

  •  Terrific Tuesdays, Hollywood Library Branch, 1530 N. Hollywood. Every Tuesday teens make arts, crafts, and play games. Call 415-2772 for more information.

Wednesday, March 7

It's Dr. Seuss' Birthday Celebration at the CMOM

Join the Children's Museum of Memphis, Friday, March 2, from 11am - 3pm to celebrate the birthday of the man behind everyone's favorite childhood books. Wear red and white, participate in a Dr. Seuss storybook character hunt and look for a special guest in a red and white hat to stop by at noon.
