Police: Man sets fire to car because girlfriend didn't wish Happy Valentine's Day

A Memphis man is accused of setting his ex-girlfriend's car on fire because she did not wish him a Happy Valentine's Day.

J.C. Williams, 48, is charged with aggravated assault and setting fire to personal property.

There are still scorch marks in ex-girlfriend Janice Johnson's driveway.

She said her family had to jump through a window because flames from the burning car blocked her home's front door.

Williams is accused of setting her Saturn on fire around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

Johnson said she was concerned she was going to be hurt.

"That's why I wanted him to go to jail last night, cause I knew if he didn't go to jail he was going to do something else," she said.

Johnson plans to seek an order of protection in case her ex-boyfriend makes his $40,000 bond.

Police said they found a gas can and matches in his car.
