(WMC-TV) – Police are searching for the gunman responsible for a Fourth of July murder.

Investigators responded to a shooting around 11:30 p.m. in the 2800 block of Kimball Avenue.

Robbery nets thief eight dollars, jail time

(WMC-TV) – Robby Williams was trying to collect a debt, but ended up getting a ride to jail for robbery instead, according to police.

The victim told officers Williams came to his home in the 2700 block of Flora, late Wednesday night.

Williams wanted the victim to repay a $35 loan, according to court records. However, the victim told Williams he couldn’t pay his debt, police said.

When he heard the news, Williams allegedly pulled out a small club and threatened to hit his victim in the head. Williams took eight dollars from the victim’s coffee table and headed to his own home, a few doors down from the victim, police said.

Williams was arrested a short time later at his own residence.

The 34-year-old has been charged with robbery.

BBB: Memphis company’s name being used in mystery shopping scam

(WMC-TV) – The Better Business Bureau says for the second time in recent months, a Memphis company’s name is being used by scam artists.

The BBB previously said conmen were fraudulently using the name of Axiom Research LLC in their scams. Now the group says crooks have started using another local company’s name, Summerfield Associates, Inc., to target their victims.

Investigators trying to solve another arson

(WMC-TV) – Investigators spent Friday morning looking into the latest in a string of arsons.

The fire was reported just before 1:30 a.m. at an apartment building in the 300 block of Walker Avenue. Crews said they could see heavy fire coming from the vacant, two-story building when the arrived on the scene.

The fire took about 30 minutes to extinguish, but no one was injured.

Arsonist behind fire that damaged three homes

(WMC-TV) – Investigators are searching for the person who set a fire that damaged three South Memphis homes early Thursday morning.

Firefighters were called to 362 Gaston St. just after 2 a.m. Crews could see heavy fire pouring from the one story house when they arrived on the scene. The fire eventually spread to a pair of adjacent homes, one of which was occupied.

Investigators say the fire caused about $19,000 in damages to the homes.

Gunman on the run after shooting outside nightclub

(WMC-TV) – Police are searching for the gunman who shot a man repeatedly as he was leaving a Lamar Avenue nightclub last week.

Investigators say the victim, a 31-year-old man, was leaving the Mariscos El Gallo Giro Club at 3096 Lamar Ave. around 5:30 a.m. on June 16 when he was shot.

Police say the victim was confronted by a Latino man armed with a pistol outside the club.

Man accused of using tow truck to steal car

(WMC-TV) – A Memphis man has been charged for using a tow truck to steal a car and then selling it for scrap metal.

The victim told police that her car was parked in the 700 block of Cavalier Drive when a pair of men lifted it with a tow truck and drove away.
