Memphis Tourism supports new generation of photographers | Events
(WMC-TV) - Watch out Memphis, there is a new generation of photographers hitting the streets with their cameras. The organization Memphis: Through the Lens of a New Generation just wrapped up their competition and they are set to announce the winner.
This photography contest is a summer program that encourages the youth of Memphis to examine the city’s history such as the sanitation strike of 1968, the deaths of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Elvis Presley as well as other events that has help to shape the city’s heritage.
Students who are in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades were chosen for this photo competition based off of their essays. The contestants wrote about themselves, the reason why they wanted to be a part of this challenge and the things they learned from the I Am a Man documentary.
During the course of two weeks the children took over 100 pictures and the organization will announce the winner tomorrow.
The awards ceremony will start at 5:30 p.m. and lasts through 7:30 p.m. in the Stax Museum of American Soul Music.
