AT CARVER HIGH SCHOOL
A HOLISTIC COMMUNITY HEALTH INITIATIVE

The Healthcare Organizations of Greater Memphis Coalition, chaired by Mrs. Joyce Shaw of Omega Ministries, is a collaborative effort among several Mid-South health organizations and institutions:  such as The Med, St. Jude Childrens Hospital, UT Health Sciences, UT Dental School, UT Preventative Medicine, Southern College of Optometry, Memphis & Shelby County Health Dept., Mid-South Transplant Foundation, LifeBlood, American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, American Stroke Association, American Heart Association, Tennessee Technology School – Nursing,  Memphis Medical Society, Christ Community Health Services Memphis City Schools – Nutrition Services Dept.

Calling all health fair participants

The Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority are sponsoring its 3rd Annual Community-wide Health Fair, Saturday, August 7, 2010. Theme: “Keeping the healthy in you.” 

The event is scheduled to take place at the Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, 1098 South Wellington Street, from 9 a.m. thru 1 p.m.

LeMoyne-Owen College to celebrate legendary coach's 92nd birthday

The Alumnae of LeMoyne-Owen College will celebrate the college's head basketball coach Jerry C. Johnson's 92nd birthday with a weekend of fun and learning on June 18 and 19.

A Golf Scramble take place on June 18 at the Tunica National Golf Course from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. and a Coaches Clinic will be conducted on June 19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Harrah's Casino Convention Center.

Digital Forum for Metro Government

Get connected with the Memphis and Shelby County Metro Charter Commission and join the conversation about what’s happening with new metro charter!  In partnership with Livable Memphis and MemphisConnect, Rebuild Government is hosting a Digital Community Forum.  Panelists will answer questions about the new metro charter from the floor, and from citizens logged on at work or home.

ArtsMemphis Encourages Memphians to Dress Down and Step Up for the Arts

MEMPHIS (June 7, 2010): Mayor A C Wharton, Jr. and City Council Chairman Harold Collins will proclaim Tuesday, June 22, Arts Day in the City of Memphis at that day’s City Council Meeting. In conjunction with Arts Day, ArtsMemphis is presenting Memphians with two options for joining the celebration: a City-Wide Jeans Day and an Arts Fair and Artist Market, to be held 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on June 22 at Civic Center Plaza.

Second Family Fun Day in Orange Mound – July 10

For the second year, the Tri-State Defender and Orange Mound Community Center will host the Summer Health Fair, A Family Fun Day.  The 2010 event will be held Saturday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Orange Mound Community Center, 2572 Park Avenue.
