(WMC-TV) - Drivers who take Third Street regularly had better gear up, because years of detours are on their way.
The stretch of Third Street between South Parkway and McLemore Avenue will be closed to through traffic starting August 15 and won't reopen until May 31, 2014, city officials announced Monday.
Closing the street will allow Tennessee Department of Transportation crews to rebuild a bridge in the area.
City officials recommend that northbound drivers take South Parkway east to Latham Street and then north to McLemore. Southbound traffic will take McLemore Avenue west to Florida Street and then head south on South Parkway.
