Delta ranks third in rude airline personnel according to survey

According to a survey of more than 1,000 travelers, American Airlines has the rudest personnel, followed by United Airlines and Delta Air Lines Inc.

The survey, conducted by website Airfarewatchdog.com, says Fort Worth, Texas-based American Airlines tops the list with 25 percent of fliers saying it has the rudest workers, reports The Los Angeles Times.

Twenty-one percent said United Airlines has the rudest personnel, while Delta was ranked rudest by 18 percent of survey respondents.

Labor Department officials say a Memphis-based tent and awning company has paid more than $133,000 in back wages and benefits for 28 Louisiana workers, according to the Associated Press.

The department said Monday that an investigation by its Wage and Hour Division showed that Mahaffey Tent and Awning Co. Inc., doing business as Mahaffey Fabric Structures, failed to pay Fort Polk, La., employees the proper prevailing wages and fringe benefits required for the categories of work that was performed.

Investigators looking into cause of building collapse

Investigators are taking a look at what caused a wall to collapse Christmas evening in South Memphis on the 2200 block of Florida Street.

The facade of a vacant Memphis Wheels building collapsed onto the street.

It looked as if the building fell out on a power line, leaving the line dangling into the intersection.

Police had the area blocked off.

There were no injuries reported and MFD is not certain of the cause just yet.

Action News 5 will let you know when a new report is released.

Six people charged in pawn shop scheme

Six people are now charged in a pawn shop scheme.

Shelby County detectives conducted an audit of pawn records at Star Pawn on Winchester.

The audit revealed 26 record keeping violations including inaccurate documentation of the serial number of items pawned.

It was also discovered that seven employees were involved in the scheme.

Among those Arrested are the pawn shop owner, store managers and clerks!

There is one suspect still out there.

They are all charged with violations of pawnbroker record law.

District attorney weighs in on dangerous apartment complex

MEMPHIS, TN- (WMC-TV) – A debate is brewing about what should happen to the apartment complex where a 2-year-old girl was shot Wednesday morning.

A few years ago, the Warren Apartments were given a second chance to keep its residents safe. But that did not happen.

Now, District Attorney Amy Weirich is weighing in.

A wild shootout at the apartment complex sent a 2-year-old to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital after she was struck by a stray bullet as she watched cartoons.

After the shooting, residents told Action News 5 that they have had enough.

Plagued with gun violence and gang activity for nearly 10 years, the South Memphis apartment complex was dubbed a public nuisance by the district attorney's office in 2010.

District Attorney Amy Weirich says new property owners took over and vowed to make improvements.

Action News 5 went to the complex to ask about those so-called changes.

2-year-old hit by stray bullet while watching cartoons

This 2-year-old girl was hit by a stray bullet in her own home.

SOUTH MEMPHIS- (WMC-TV) - A 2-year-old is in critical condition after being hit by a stray bullet while watching cartoons in her own home.

Neighbors at the Warren Apartments on Clementine Road in South Memphis say the shooting began Tuesday. They called police, but the shooting continued Wednesday morning.

Christie Berry, 6-years-old, showed Action News 5's Jerica Phillips where bullets went flying through a window where she and her siblings were sitting.

"We were watching TV and then I heard gunshots and one had come through the window and shot C.C.," the 6-year-old described the scene.

Christie says her 2-year-old sister, Chrissiya, was shot in the arm by a stray bullet.

Henry McCracken and his wife watch the toddler and her brothers and sisters while their mom is at work.

Police say around 8 a.m. Wednesday, a fight broke out between several people in the apartment complex and someone started shooting.
