Boys Scouts, MSNS providing dog houses to needy | Pets

Mid-South Spay and Neuter Services (MSNS) has partnered with the Memphis-area Chickasaw Council, Boy Scouts of America to provide dog houses to those in need.

Some of the available dog houses have already been distributed to worthy candidates through an additional partnership with the Memphis and Shelby County Environmental Court and Judge Larry Potter and animal advocate Cindy Sanders.

The remaining dog houses will be available to seniors and those showing proof of government assistance on Saturday, June 16, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on a first-come/first-serve basis at the MSNS clinic, 854 Goodman St.

Boy Scouts from the Chickasaw Council took charge on making this Eagle Scout project a major success. They raised all the money for needed supplies and constructed nearly 50 doghouses among all the troops. Father-and-son teams worked together on the project, which helped raise family awareness of responsible pet ownership. Some dog houses are primed, painted and shingled, and all are in need of a good home. There will be 30 available on June 16.

“This is a great way to build awareness about the importance of responsible pet ownership and spay and neuter to a younger audience,” Patrick Wyatt, MSNS board president, said of the partnership with the Boy Scouts. “We are proud to be able to build a link between animal advocacy and helping those in need.”

These large doghouses are 36” wide and are quite heavy, so appropriate transportation will be required for anyone picking up a doghouse on Saturday.
