Soup Sunday to help Youth Villages

Youth Villages hosts its 22nd Annual Soup Sunday on Feb. 27 at 11a.m. from 2 p.m. at FedEx Forum. During the event you can sample a variety of soups, breads and desserts, from the best Mid-South restaurants and caterers.

The proceeds from the Soup Sunday event will go to the Youth Villages Mentoring Program. Click  here  to read more about the event, view a list of participating restaurants and caterers, and purchase tickets.

Groundhog Day could mean free eats at Chick-fil-A

It could be a double dose of good news Groundhog Day morning, if the groundhog predicts an early spring.

If the groundhog doesn't see his shadow, customers won't have to pay for a spicy chicken biscuit at Memphis and North Mississippi area Chick-fil-A restaurants.

The giveaway will be Wednesday, Feb. 2.

A portion of all sales from the Groundhog Day giveaway will be donated to MIFA.

Corky’s helps homeless by smoking 100 turkeys

Cooking a traditional Thanksgiving meal for hundreds of homeless men and women doesn’t happen overnight.

In Memphis Union Mission’s case, it takes weeks of preparations and a little help from Corky’s Barbecue, who is lending a hand again this year by smoking all 100 turkeys that the Mission will be serving.

“What Corky’s does for us is a real blessing,” said Scott Bjork, president and CEO. “By smoking those turkeys for us, it makes preparations for our Thanksgiving banquet so much easier.”

But for the Mission, it isn’t just about efficiency.

Uncle Lou's Fried Chicken opened in April 2001 after Lou Martin's Turkey Express booths had become a mainstay at the Mid-South Fair, the Southern Heritage Classic, Liberty Bowl, Memphis in May and University of Memphis home football games.

The restaurant has been featured on the Food Network's "Dinner, Drive-Ins, and Dives".
